Medical Definition of De Sanctis-Cacchione syndrome

1. A variant of xeroderma pigmentosum in which a different DNA repair enzyme is involved. Hybrid fibroblasts formed by Sendai virus fusion of the two types show normal repair (complementation). Those affected demonstrate xeroderma pigmentosum with mental deficiency, dwarfism, and gonadal hypoplasia. Inheritance: autosomal recessive. (05 Jul 2000)
