Medical Definition of Sendai virus

1. Parainfluenza virus type 1 (Paramyxoviridae). Can cause fatal pneumonia in mice and may cause respiratory disease in humans. The ability of ultraviolet inactivated virus to fuse mammalian cells has been extensively used in the study of heterokaryons and hybrid cell lines.
