1. Abolition of the patellar tendon reflex, in tabes and certain other diseases of the spinal cord, and occasionally also in brain disease. Synonym: Erb sign, Westphal's phenomenon, Westphal's sign, Westphal-Erb sign. (05 Mar 2000)
