1. An enzyme that catalyses the formation of n-5'-phosphoribosylanthranilic acid from anthranilate and phosphoribosylpyrophosphate, the first step in tryptophan synthesis in e. Coli. It exists in a complex with anthranilate synthase in bacteria.
