Medical Definition of Bacteriocinogen

1. A plasmid, or ring of DNA, found in certain bacteria which controls the production of bacteriocin, a substance that the bacteria can use to kill closely-related strains of other bacteria without rupturing their cell membranes. (09 Oct 1997)
