Medical Definition of Central gyri

1. The precentral and postcentral gyri. Gyri cerebri Gyri of cerebrum, the gyri or convolutions of the cerebral cortex. Cingulate gyrus, a long, curved convolution of the medial surface of the cortical hemisphere, arched over the corpus callosum from which it is separated by the deep sulcus of corpus callosum; together with the parahippocampal gyrus, with which it is continuous behind the corpus callosum, it forms the fornicate gyrus. Synonym: gyrus cinguli, callosal convolution, callosal gyrus, cingulate convolution, falciform lobe, lobus falciformis. (05 Mar 2000)
