Medical Definition of Dental index

1. Relation of the dental length (distance from the mesial surface of the first premolar to the distal surface of the third molar) to the basinasal (basion to nasion) length: (dental length ×100)/basinasal length, a system of numbers for indicating comparative size of the teeth.
