Medical Definition of Ductus venosus
1. In the foetus, continuation of the left umbilical vein through the liver to the vena cava inferior; after birth, its lumen becomes obliterated, forming the ligamentum venosum. Ductus venosus arantii, rarely used term for ductus venosus. (05 Mar 2000)
