Medical Definition of Ferruginous bodies

1. In the lungs, foreign inorganic or organic fibres coated by complexes of haemosiderin and glycoproteins, and believed to be formed by macrophages that have phagocytised the fibres. See: asbestos bodies. (05 Mar 2000)
