Medical Definition of Haem oxygenase (decyclizing)

1. A mixed function oxidase enzyme which during haemoglobin catabolism catalyses the degradation of haem to ferrous iron, carbon monoxide and biliverdin in the presence of molecular oxygen and reduced NADPH.
