Medical Definition of Heterodimer

1. A dimer in which the two subunits are different. One of the best known examples is tubulin that is found as an _ tubulin/_ tubulin dimer. Heterodimers are relatively common and it may be that the arrangement has the advantage that, for example: several different binding subunits may interact with a conserved signalling subunit.
