Medical Definition of Impaired glucose tolerance

1. Blood glucose (sugar) levels higher than normal but not high enough to be called diabetes. People with impaired glucose tolerance may or may not develop diabetes. Other names (no longer used) for impaired glucose tolerance are borderline, subclinical, chemical, or latent diabetes. (30 Mar 1998)
