1. A cycloheptathiophene that interferes with the release of inflammatory mediators and blocks histamine h1 receptors. It has been proposed as an anti-asthmatic and for the treatment of rhinitis, skin allergies, and anaphylaxis. Pharmacological action: anti-allergic agents, antipruritics, histamine h1 antagonists. Chemical name: 10H-Benzo(4,5)cyclohepta(1,2-b)thiophen-10-one, 4,9-dihydro-4-(1-methyl-4-piperidinylidene)- (12 Dec 1998)
