Medical Definition of Limbic lobe

1. As originally defined by P. Broca: the nearly closed ring of the brain structures surrounding the hilus, or margin, of the cerebral hemisphere of mammals; it is composed of the fornicate gyrus (cingulate gyrus and parahippocampal gyrus), the hippocampus, and the amygdala.
