Medical Definition of Lingual nerve

1. A sensory branch of the mandibular nerve, which is part of the trigeminal (5th cranial) nerve. The lingual nerve carries general afferent fibres from the anterior two-thirds of the tongue, the floor of the mouth, and the mandibular gingivae. (12 Dec 1998)
