1. The therapeutic use of mud in packs or baths. It includes mud, earth, clay, and peat. The original mud was fango, a volcanic mud from the battaglia thermal springs in italy, applied externally in the treatment of rheumatism and other diseases of the joints and muscles. (12 Dec 1998)
