Medical Definition of Muramic acids
1. Compounds consisting of glucosamine and lactate joined by an ether linkage. They occur naturally as n-acetyl derivatives in peptidoglycan, the characteristic polysaccharide composing bacterial cell walls. (12 Dec 1998)
