1. An enzyme that will reversibly catalyze the reaction of alpha-ketoglutarate and l-ornithine to form l-glutamate and l-glutamate gamma-semialdehyde; a deficiency of this enzyme will result in gyrate atrophy of the choroid and retina. Synonym: ornithine transaminase. (05 Mar 2000)
