1. (5 alpha,17 beta)-17-hydroxy-2-(hydroxymethylene)-17-methylandrostan-3-one. A synthetic hormone with anabolic and androgenic properties. It is used mainly in the treatment of anaemias. According to the fourth annual report on carcinogens (ntp 85-002), this compound may reasonably be anticipated to be a carcinogen. Pharmacological action: anabolic steroids, carcinogens.
