Medical Definition of Paralytic ileus

1. Paralysis or inactivity of the intestine that prohibits the passage of material within the intestine. May be the result of anticholinergic drugs, injury or illness. Paralytic ileus is a typical occurrence post surgically. Patients may complain of constipation and bloating. (27 Sep 1997)
