1. (carboxymethyl)phosphonic acid. A simple organophosphorus compound that inhibits DNA polymerase, especially in viruses and is used as antiviral agent. Pharmacological action: antiviral agents, reverse transcriptase inhibitors. Chemical name: Acetic acid, phosphono- (12 Dec 1998)
