Medical Definition of Pilocarpus

1. A genus of trees and shrubs found in Central and South America and in the West Indies. Constitutes the botanical source for pilocarpine, an alkaloid which activates cholinergic muscarinic receptors. Pilocarpine is used in the treatment of glaucoma where it is instilled in the eye.
