Definition of Silent barter

1. Noun. A system wherby traders who cannot speak each other's language can trade without talking and to protect the secrets of where gold and salt came from. This system was used in many parts of ancient Africa. Silent bartering was mainly used during 500 to 1500 A.D ¹
