Malignant tumour (teratoma) thought to originate from primordial germ cells or misplaced blastomeres that contains tissues derived from all three embryonic layers, such as bone, muscle, cartilage, nerve, tooth buds and various glands. Accompanied by undifferentiated, pluripotent epithelial cells known as embryonal carcinoma cells. (16 Dec 1997)
