Medical Definition of Thiamine pyrophosphatase

1. The coenzyme form of vitamin B1 (thiamine), deficiency of which causes beri beri. Forms the prosthetic group of pyruvate dehydrogenase, _ ketoglutarate dehydrogenase and transketolase, in which it is involved in transfer of a 2 carbon unit.
