Medical Definition of Uroporphyrinogen decarboxylase

1. One of the enzymes active in haem biosynthesis. It catalyses the decarboxylation of uroporphyrinogen III to coproporphyrinogen III by the conversion of four acetic acid groups to four methyl groups. Chemical name: Uroporphyrinogen-III carboxy-lyase Registry number: EC 4.1.1.37 (12 Dec 1998)
