Medical Definition of Angiostrongylus vasorum

1. A species occurring in the pulmonary artery and, rarely, in the right ventricle of the dog and fox; thrombi may occur in the lungs, and hypertrophy of the heart and liver may result in ascites; affected animals suffer from dyspnea and occasionally may die from cardiac insufficiency. Synonym: Haemostrongylus vasorum. (05 Mar 2000)
