Medical Definition of Chorioptes

1. A genus of cosmopolitan and very common mange mites (family Psoroptidae) that cause chorioptic or symbiotic domestic animal mange, characterised by restriction of the mange to certain parts of the animal's body. Various species described, i.e., Chorioptes equi of horses, Chorioptes caprae of goats, Chorioptes ovis of sheep, Chorioptes cuniculi of rabbits, are now thought to be physiologic strains of one species, Chorioptes bovis of cattle.
