Medical Definition of THIP

1. Alpha-(4,5,6,7-tetrahydroisoxazolo[5,4-c] pyridin-3-ol;an agonist at gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) type A receptors. Unlike other agonists of this type, upon systemic administration THIP penetrates the blood-brain barrier and is used as a pharmacological tool to explore GABA receptor function in the brain and spinal cord.
