Medical Definition of Theileriidae

1. A family of sporozoan protozoa which, combined with the family Babesiidae, comprises the order Piroplasmida; it consists of one recognised genus, Theileria, transmitted by ixodid ticks; some species are highly pathogenic to domestic and wild ruminants, causing theileriosis. (05 Mar 2000)
