Medical Definition of Amdinocillin pivoxil

1. 6-(((hexahydro-1h-azepin-1-yl)methylene)amino)-3,3-dimethyl- 7-oxo-4-thia-1-azabicyclo(3.2.0)heptane-2-carboxylic acid (2,2-dimethyl-1-oxopropoxy)methyl ester. Pivaloyloxymethyl ester of amdinocillin that is well absorbed orally, but broken down to amdinocillin in the intestinal mucosa. It is active against gram-negative organisms and used as for amdinocillin. Pharmacological action: penicillins. Chemical name: 4-Thia-1-azabicyclo(3.2.0)heptane-2-carboxylic acid, 6-(((hexahydro-1H-azepin-1-yl)methylene)amino)-3,3-dimethyl-7-oxo-, (2,2-dimethyl-1-oxopropoxy)methyl ester, (2S-(2alpha,5alpha,6beta))- (12 Dec 1998)
