Medical Definition of Bursa mucosa

1. A sac containing synovial fluid which occurs at sites of friction, as between a tendon and a bone over which it plays, or subcutaneously over a bony prominence. The NA lists the following types: subcutaneous synovial bursa, bursa synovialis subcutanea; submuscular synovial bursa, bursa synovialis submuscularis; subfascial synovial bursa, bursa synovialis subfascialis; and subtendinous synovial bursa, bursa synovialis subtendinea.
