A highly contagious systemic disease of dogs caused by the canine distemper virus and characterised by a diphasic fever, leukopenia, gastrointestinal and respiratory catarrh and, frequently, pneumonic and neurological complications; the disease also occurs in foxes, wolves, ferrets, mink, skunks, and raccoons.
