1. A genus of the family poxviridae, subfamily chordopoxvirinae, comprising poxviruses infecting sheep, goats, and cattle. Transmission is usually mechanical by arthropods, but also includes contact, airborne routes, and non-living reservoirs (fomites). (12 Dec 1998)
