1. A highly pathogenic disease of cape buffaloes (Syncerus caffer) and cattle in eastern and southern Africa caused by the protozoan Theileria parva lawrencei and transmitted primarily by the tick Rhipicephalus appendiculatus; lesions and symptoms are similar to those of East Coast fever.
