Medical Definition of Demodectic acariasis

1. An infestation of the hair follicles and sebaceous glands with mites of the genus Demodex; they occur in humans and a number of domesticated animals; although asymptomatic in most species, these mites can cause severe and extensive dermatitis ("red mange") in dogs.
