Medical Definition of Demyelinisation

1. The destruction of the protective myelin sheath that surrounds nerve fibres, resulting in the loss of function of those nerves. Demyelinisation happens in some degenerative nerve diseases like multiple sclerosis and polio. (09 Oct 1997)
