1. 6,8-difluoro-1-(2-fluoroethyl)-1,4-dihydro-7-(4-methyl-1-piperazinyl)-4-oxo-3-quinolinecarboxylic acid. A third-generation fluoroquinolone derivative with a broad antimicrobial spectrum. The drug strongly inhibits the DNA-supercoiling activity of DNA gyrase which may account for its antibacterial activity. Pharmacological action: anti-infective agents, fluoroquinolone, enzyme inhibitors. Chemical name: 3-Quinolinecarboxylic acid, 6,8-difluoro-1-(2-fluoroethyl)-1,4-dihydro-7-(4-methyl-1-piperazinyl)-4-oxo- (12 Dec 1998)
