Medical Definition of High blood cholesterol

1. A condition where there is an above normal level of cholesterol in the bloodstream. A level of over 200 mg/dl is known to be a risk factor for heart disease. Less than 200 is desirable, 200 to 239 is considered borderline high, over 240 is considered high. (27 Sep 1997)
