Medical Definition of Hyperkaliaemia

1. Abnormal elevation of serum potassium level. Can result in cardiac arrhythmias and cardiac arrest. Conditions which may cause an increase in blood potassium include kidney failure, haemolytic anaemia, chemotherapy and drug side effects. Origin: Gr. Haima = blood (29 Sep 1997)
