Medical Definition of Intermediate nerve

1. A root of the facial nerve containing sensory fibres for taste from the anterior 2/3 of tongue whose cell bodies are located in the geniculate ganglion and presynaptic parasympathetic autonomic fibres whose cell bodies are located in the superior salivatory nucleus, i.e., the fibres eventually conveyed via the chorda tympani branch of the facial nerve to the lingual nerve.
