Medical Definition of Interstitial cystitis

A chronic inflammatory condition of the bladder. The cause of interstitial cystitis is unknown, but occurs more commonly in females.
Symptoms include difficulty urinating, pain on urination, urinary urgency and increased frequency of urination.
