1. A form of pneumonia which involves the interstitial tissues (connective tissue) of the lung. Causes are varied and include: infection with Pneumocystis carinii, radiation exposure, toxic inhalation, viral pneumonias and giant cell pneumonia. (27 Sep 1997)
