Medical Definition of Involucrin

1. Marker protein for keratinocyte differentiation first appearing in the upper spinous layer of the epidermis. Together with trichohyalin forms the scaffold for the cell envelope. This entry appears with permission from the Dictionary of Cell and Molecular Biology (11 Mar 2008)
