Medical Definition of Maclagan's test

1. Precipitation of abnormal proportions of albumin and globulin from the serum of patients with liver disease by addition of thymol. Although popular in the past it has been superseded by quantitative determination of specific proteins and direct measurement of liver enzymes. Synonym: Maclagan's test, Maclagan's thymol turbidity test. (05 Mar 2000)
