1. The later union, by fibrocartilage, of the manubrium and the body of the sternum; it begins as a synchondrosis and becomes a symphysis, occasionally fusing to become a synostosis. Synonym: symphysis manubriosternalis, sternomanubrial junction. (05 Mar 2000)
