1. A barbiturate that is metabolised to phenobarbital. It has been used for similar purposes, especially in epilepsy, but there is no evidence mephobarbital offers any advantage over phenobarbital. Pharmacological action: anticonvulsants, gaba modulators, sedatives, barbiturate. Chemical name: 2,4,6(1H,3H,5H)-Pyrimidinetrione, 5-ethyl-1-methyl-5-phenyl- (12 Dec 1998)
