1. A family of anaerobic, coccoid to rod-shaped methanobacteriales. Cell membranes are composed mainly of polyisoprenoid hydrocarbons ether-linked to glycerol. Its organisms are found in anaerobic habitats throughout nature. (12 Dec 1998)
