Medical Definition of Monocistronic RNA

1. A messenger RNA that gives a single polypeptide chain when translated. All eukaryote mRNAs are monocistronic, but some bacterial mRNAs are polycistronic especially those transcribed from operons. This entry appears with permission from the Dictionary of Cell and Molecular Biology (11 Mar 2008)
