4-hydroxy-2-methyl-n-2-pyridyl-2h-1,2-benzothiazine-3-carboxamide 1,1-dioxide. A non-steroidal anti-inflammatory agent that is well established in the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis. Its usefulness has also been demonstrated in the treatment of musculoskeletal disorders, dysmenorrhoea, and postoperative pain. Its long half-life enables it to be administered once daily. The drug has also been shown to be effective if administered rectally. Gastrointestinal complaints are the most frequently reported side effects.
Pharmacological action: non-steroidal anti-inflammatory agents, cyclooxygenase inhibitors.
